Over recent years I have had the opportunity to work alongside a few of the best public speakers in the world. Their passion and outstanding communication skill motivates us to act, inspires entrepreneurs to realise their dreams, drives us to achieve our goals and reminds us of our “Why”.

Do you know your “Why?” The purpose, cause, or belief that inspires you to do what you do? Very few people know why they do what they do. The “Why” is not about making money – that’s a by-product. The “Why” is a purpose, cause or belief. Your “Why” is the very reason you exist. (Simon Sinek, Start with why)
In a fast-paced world, many of us forget what we originally set out to achieve. Numerous businesses have no idea why they have loyal customers. They may comment that they deliver quality and great service, but these are typically random answers based on a lack of knowledge.
The truth, is that most companies either manipulate or inspire their customers. Manipulation is common practice typically based on price, fear and promises. Inspiration comes from knowing, living and delivering what you and your company believe in, what you stand for.
Ask a company about themselves and inevitably they will tell you “WHAT” they do, “HOW” they do it and finally “WHY” they do it. However, some of the most successful companies in the world lead with their “Why”. Let me explain…
“Company A”, produce fitness drinks (WHAT), they proudly manufacture and distribute these across the UK & Europe (HOW) and promise you that these drinks will make you a world class athlete. (WHY) Now consider these messages from a few of the world’s leading organisations: – Apple lead with “Why”: Be cool, be inspirational, be part of an uber cool group. They rarely lead with their products! – Coke lead with “Why”: Be part of a worldwide family, live the dream. They rarely lead with how they make their drinks! – Harley Davidson lead with “Why”: Be a rocker, be an individual, be a rebel. They rarely lead with their bikes! Simon Clark, Managing Partner at BarrettClark says: “I enjoy providing opportunity and being able to make a genuine difference to people. BarrettClark was set up to do just that!”
So, take some time to reflect on your personal and professional life and remind yourself of your “Why?”
